Mental Skills Coaching

Mental Skills Coaching: An Overview
While the focus of Mental Skills Coaching may certainly address problems, Tim often describes this work as "taking something good and making it even better." Tim is able to appreciate the nuances associated with achieving consistent performance across sports and other disciplines, and with overcoming problems, regardless of context. He enjoys helping clients to replicate what works while not shying away from obstacles.
This process begins with an initial intake interview where Tim gets to know you and what brings you in, and you get to learn a little more about the process. A personality inventory may also be used to gather information to help us both learn about your personal tendencies and the manner in which they may help or impede your performance. A mental skills assessment will likely be used from time to time, to help highlight the goals of our work together and to monitor progress. Biofeedback will likely be used to assist with breath training, in order systematically determine your optimal breathing frequency, and to enhance your present moment awareness with whatever task at hand. Tim will help you to monitor your mood states and recovery activities, in order to maximize enjoyment of your pursuits, and maximize the benefits associated with good recovery. The essence of this work is not just developing awareness, it is taking an action-oriented approach to developing skills such as goal-setting, energy management, mindful attention, self-talk, imagery & mental practice, and communication. While Tim may sometimes observe or work with clients in the setting where they perform, the ultimate goal is for mental skills to become so well-learned that Tim becomes unnecessary.
*Note: These services generally do not constitute therapy unless a diagnosable condition is addressed. In other words, therapy tends to be eligible for insurance-reimbursement, while mental skills coaching is not.
Are you a client coming in for the 1st time? Print up the paperwork below and let Tim know if you have questions. You will briefly discuss this stuff in your first session.
